The 1960’s was full of jazz or pop tunes pulled or reworked from movie soundtracks. “Somewhere My Love (Lara’s Theme) from the David Lean movie “Dr. Zhivago” is a perfect example. Believe it or not, “The Fall of the Roman Empire” also had a pop song sung by the ultimate 60’s crooner Johnny Mathis! See the YouTube clip above to hear the song, and below for the lyrics.
THE FALL OF LOVE (from “The Fall of the Roman Empire”)
Lyrics: Ned Washington – Music: Dimitri Tiomkin
Andre Kostelanetz, Ed Ames, others
The rise and fall of love
Is beautiful and sad.
We heard the call of love
When dreams were all we had.
Within that first embrace
We lost all sense of time and space.
Now, no matter what it is fate may decree,
There’ll be no fall of love,
Not for you and me.
The rise and fall of love
Is tragic to behold.
The end and all of love
Is like a tale twice told.
We kissed one summer night.
Your arms were warm – love reached its height.
No unhappiness can touch two such as we.
There’ll be no fall of love,
Not for you and me.
